CVCA C&R, Section IV, (3) states: Dogs and cats or other domestic pets shall not be allowed to roam unattended in Chatuge Village Subdivision, or create a nuisance to Chatuge Village property owners, and shall be confined within the owner’s property or shall be confined to a leash and under control of the owner or some other person designated by the owner when said animal or pet is accompanying its owner or other person designated when outside the owner’s property.
While Clay County does not have a leash law, “control” of your pet remains your responsibility.
Pet owners are urged to keep your pet and its actions under your supervision and control.
If notified by another person that your dog is bothering them, or that your dog’s actions are threatening or creating a nuisance, consider yourself being put on notice.
Under Clay County & NC laws, the Sheriff can & will respond to any call reporting such a pet-related complaint.
If investigated, the sheriff may issue a requirement to have your pet registered, provide proof of all shots, etc.
Worst-case scenario, a summons will be issued for the case to go to court before a local magistrate for ruling/remedy, possibly ending up with animal impounded.
